Towards the end of 1968, technicians of the Bank of Mexico selected six points to host new ideal destinations. One was a tract of land shaped like a 7 that it was technically an island, because two narrow channels separate it from the mainland, staying in the hollow interior of the 7 a series of lagoons, fed both by sea and by an uncountable number of cenotes. The island was called Kaankún. The quality of its beaches and sand was extraordinary. The water temperature was warm and tended to be stable. The first settlement was Puerto Juarez, with few inhabitants. In the city of Mexico, the project was approved in 1969 and Cancun is today the most important destinations worldwide.
